Research objective

Introduce PowerFactory workspace navigation, study-case organization and a transparent four-bus power-system model suitable for first load-flow experiments.

Software and model scope

Primary environment: DIgSILENT PowerFactory. Discipline: Power Systems Engineering. The video provides a project demonstration; source models, solver settings and plots should be checked against the actual implementation before reuse.

Simulation / modelling methodology

  • Identify the active project, network model, study case and calculation commands in the PowerFactory interface.
  • Create four bus terminals, lines or transformers, an external grid/slack source and representative generation/load objects.
  • Assign consistent base quantities, nominal voltages, equipment ratings and load sign conventions.
  • Run a load flow, inspect convergence, voltage magnitude, branch loading and the balance of active/reactive power.

Outputs and checks for validation

  • Four-bus single-line diagram with named network elements
  • Bus voltages, angles and load-flow convergence status
  • Line/transformer active and reactive power flows and loading
  • Slack injection, estimated losses and any equipment limit violations

How to interpret results

Check the selected slack bus and network connectivity before interpreting voltage deviations. The four-bus model is an illustrative exercise, not a validated utility network or a substitute for a standard test system.

Verification caveat: Common errors include disconnected elements, an undefined reference source, inconsistent kV ratings, incorrect power sign, or confusing project data with study-case results.

Applications for OEM and PhD research

PowerFactory learning, distribution network studies, grid research orientation and reproducible load-flow tutorials.

Frequently asked questions

Which software is used for this simulation?

DIgSILENT PowerFactory is the primary environment named in this project.

What should be checked before using its results?

Common errors include disconnected elements, an undefined reference source, inconsistent kV ratings, incorrect power sign, or confusing project data with study-case results.

Can this project support a new research comparison?

It can serve as a reference workflow, but any new claim requires a fresh model, documented parameters, independent validation and genuinely measured outputs.
