Research question and scope
Walk through the essential steps for building and simulating a 2.4 GHz microstrip patch antenna in ANSYS HFSS.
A meaningful reproduction begins by documenting software version, sample or solver configuration, operating conditions and what the video actually demonstrates.
Modelling workflow
Define the target resonant frequency, substrate permittivity/thickness, metallization and feed arrangement before choosing dimensions.
Create the patch, ground plane, dielectric substrate, coaxial or microstrip feed and an adequately sized radiation region.
Assign materials, ports and radiation boundary conditions, then set a solution frequency and frequency sweep.
Inspect convergence and adjust geometry only after checking units, port calibration and mesh refinement.
Signals and evidence to record
Reflection coefficient S11 against frequency and matched-band estimate
Input impedance and Smith chart across the sweep
Far-field radiation pattern, directivity and realized gain where appropriately solved
Surface-current distribution and mesh/convergence information
How to read the simulation output
A simulated S11 dip near 2.4 GHz indicates an input match in the model, not by itself validated antenna efficiency or realized gain. Inspect excitation, radiation boundaries and sensitivity to substrate properties.
Do not assume a patch width/length without effective dielectric calculations; check finite ground effects, port placement, airbox clearance and mesh-convergence stability.
Research and engineering uses
Wireless antenna design education, Wi-Fi band RF prototyping, patch-antenna optimization and HFSS solver training.
Use the demonstration as an introduction to the workflow, then develop independent comparison cases before treating any result as a research finding.
